By barricading you are locking yourself out. It seems more sensible to me to just cover all the windows with sheets and not draw attention. Try to check the pzwiki first for these basic questions. It's all there! You should be able to just right click and select barricade. Try to go outside of your safe house and barricade from there. Sometimes it does not want to show up if you're inside. This is a bug at the moment.
