When you leave Fort Joy and reach the new region, any origin companion not on your team dies. So if Red Prince is not one of your 3 companions, he dies. On the ship you will be on, you can respec with a magic mirror on the bottom level of the ship. The good news is a full respec, no charge for any of your characters. You can do it at any time too.The larian one just places a respec mirror in the arena in fort joy. It is exactly what you want, doesnt break the game. Will disable achievements though.
