Never ever use any kind of tool to tighten them. For the JK it's well known that you tighten until it cracks then back off a 1/4 turn. Factory spec is 18 ft pounds, the Dorman unit doesn't call out a different spec, but like you I hand tighten until snug. Has anyone replaced their JK "oil filter housing"? Did you do the repair yourself or take it to a repair shop? The total repair cost was around $1,300. They replaced the oil cooler and a bunch of hoses due to oil getting into the cooling system.Got mine installed 3 months ago. No probs and the aluminum part looked good. You reuse the original oil cooling fins and the plastic oil filter cap, but the Dorman includes the small O ring seals for their aluminum cooler and the upper/lower manifold gaskets.
