Jul 18, 2017 · Kansas has a history of natural earthquakes. The largest earthquake documented in Kansas occurred in 1867 near Wamego in Pottawatomie County. It was about a 5.2 on the Richter Scale and was felt as far away as Dubuque, Iowa. This earthquake, as well as most other Kansas earthquakes, occurred on deep faults associated with ancient rock structures.
