I finally got around to trying Infinite Heaven and have been playing around with soldier parameters. I've seen mods that put enemy vision at 300% but when I tried 200%, I thought even that was a bit much. I feel increasing their hearing distance is good for making you stalk longer for a hold-up, adding some tension and upping the risk.
