Calamity adds a whole new level of power and outclasses almost every vanilla weapon and armour class. So if you mix them together, you likely won't be using Thorium weapons as Calamity's are better in terms of their strength at that point in the game. Okay, I just played through the Calamity mod again - normal difficulty - and I see that they've taken out the 15-hit maximum that used to be in the Scal fight.
