It may be necessary to shorten the barrel to achieve enough thickness. The 3 big things I look for are: Barrel wall thickness; Torque shoulder height and Barrel length (don't wanna make an NFA item by accident). As far as baffle strikes, if the smith indicates the bbl properly there should be an issue (or cuts between centers).

Those filaments do a lot towards reducing the heat and pressure of those gases. By the time they can bounce off of the front of the can and go back over the screen, to follow the other gases out of the baffle stack, they' have lost a lot of their blast and heat.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that is the cause of the baffle strike.
