Finalists will participate in the final round, which includes an interview and writing exercise, between November 13-16, 2023. Pickering Foreign Affairs Graduate Fellowship is September 20, 2018.

The fellowships (Pickering/Rangel) can be pretty competitive to get, but yes, once you get one, your process into the FS is different. As a fellow you still must take the FSOT (though you don't need to pass--but you will!) and you must pass the FSOA in order to get tenure in the FS (though most fellows pass it before entering the FS). The Pickering Program plans to award 45 fellowships of up to $42,000 annually for a two-year period for tuition, room, board, books, and mandatory fees for completion of two-year master’s degrees. This includes up to $24,000 per year for tuition and mandatory fees and an academic year stipend of $18,000.
