In defining syntactic categories, i t is tempting to rely on what you were probably taught in school: nouns are "people, places, or things" and verbs are "actions," adjectives "describe," etc. That is, we can attempt to define syntactic category using meaning. This turns out be wrong for a number of reasons.

Syntactic Category Terminology Since we now have adjectives, possessives, and determiners of several different types, it may be helpful to sometimes use the terminology of categorial grammar, which encodes semantic types. But there are two problems to overcome. (1) Sometimes different syntactic categories have the same semantic type, e.g. CN and IVTo generate this header file, add the -d option to your bison command, e.g.: bison -d -o parser.cpp parser.y.
